RCS or rec.crafts.scrapbooks is a an official newsgroup on the internet. Started in 1998, one of its founding members, Joana Knuth wrote in a document requesting that the group become official, "the purpose of the newsgroup is to facilitate open discussion of the craft of scrapbooking. RCS provides a global forum to discuss topics concerning scrapbooking, its techniques, vendors, supply sources, and to arrange swaps." Over the years, our purpose has not changed.
What makes our newsgroup special is our members. We come from across the globe including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and of course the United States, with new members from new countries joining us weekly. We are always happy to meet these new people; and while everyone lurks from time to time, everyone is strongly encouraged to post regularly and qualify for some of our group activities. We love to share what we've learned and to learn from everyone who joins our discussions.
So take a moment to get to meet us, read our FAQs, see what swaps and challenges we have, read our tips for beginner scrapbookers, find a scrapbook store, and take a glance at out favorite links. And if you're wondering about all those abbreviations and acronyms we use, click here for the decoder!
If the group isn't available on your provider's news server, email them and ask them to add it and while you wait, you can always catch us via Google. You can also choose to pay 10 Euros, about $14 USD and gain access via http://news.individual.net/register.php. Click here for details on how to get this server.
